This week we take a look at the lineage of the Campbell surname as it pertains to my husband’s family history.<\/p>\n

Earliest Known Ancestor<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Henry Campbell was my husband’s 3rd great grandfather.\u00c2\u00a0 I believe he was born circa 1821 in Rutland, Rutland County, Vermont although I cannot find his birth record to be sure.\u00c2\u00a0 According to the Michigan Marriages to 1850<\/strong><\/a> index, Henry Campbell married Ruth Newcombe in Paw Paw, Van Buren County, Michigan on April 18, 1839.\u00c2\u00a0 The two had 10 children:<\/p>\n

    Henry Campbell died on 26 Jan 1873 in Waverly, Cheboygan, Michigan.<\/p>\n

    Henry’s son Walter Henry Campbell is my husband’s 2nd great-grandfather.\u00c2\u00a0 Walter served in the\u00c2\u00a0Civil War as a Private in the Union Army, Company G, 13th Michigan Infantry.<\/p>\n

    According to the book “Record of service of Michigan volunteers in the civil war, 1861-1865<\/a><\/strong>” Volume 13, Page 29:<\/p>\n

    Campbell, Walter H., Waverly.\u00c2\u00a0 Enlisted in company G, Thirteenth Infantry, Aug. 29, 1864, at Kalamazoo, for 1 year, age 19.\u00c2\u00a0 Mustered Sept. 1, 1864.\u00c2\u00a0 Discharged at New York City May 26, 1865.<\/p>\n

    Campbell, Willard N., or William, Waverly.\u00c2\u00a0 Enlisted in company G, Thirteenth Infantry, Aug. 29, 1864, at Kalamazoo, for 1 year, age 21.\u00c2\u00a0 Mustered Sept. 1, 1864.\u00c2\u00a0 Sick at Goldsboro, N. C. April 8, 1865.\u00c2\u00a0 No further record.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
