{"id":3939,"date":"2011-10-08T06:00:48","date_gmt":"2011-10-08T14:00:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jessicagreen.com\/wordpress\/?p=3939"},"modified":"2011-09-05T14:29:55","modified_gmt":"2011-09-05T21:29:55","slug":"surname-saturday-kozminska","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jessicagreen.com\/wordpress\/2011\/10\/08\/surname-saturday-kozminska\/","title":{"rendered":"Surname Saturday &#8211; Kozminska"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This week we take a look at the lineage of the Kozminska surname as it pertains to my family&#8217;s history.\u00c2\u00a0 This is by far the tiniest little tree in the history of family trees.\u00c2\u00a0 It reminds of the tree in A Charlie Brown Christmas.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Earliest Known Ancestor<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>My great-grandmother, Anna Kozminska, was born in Poland on April 26, 1867.\u00c2\u00a0 Her maiden name may have been Kozminska, Kozminski, Kozmanski or   Buzinski.  Her first name has also been documented as Annie instead of Anna.\u00c2\u00a0 Various records have indicated multiple possibilities, although I have seen references to &#8220;Kozminska&#8221; more than any other variation.<\/p>\n<p>Anna arrived to the United States in 1891 according to the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/search.ancestry.com\/cgi-bin\/sse.dll?db=1900usfedcen&amp;h=25361487&amp;ti=0&amp;indiv=try&amp;gss=pt&amp;ssrc=pt_t14846324_p172687826_kpidz0q3d172687826z0q26pgz0q3d32768z0q26pgPLz0q3dpid\" target=\"_blank\">1900 US Census<\/a><\/strong>, in 1889 according to the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/search.ancestry.com\/cgi-bin\/sse.dll?db=1910USCenIndex&amp;indiv=try&amp;h=198350937\" target=\"_blank\">1910 US Census<\/a><\/strong> and in 1888 according to the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/search.ancestry.com\/cgi-bin\/sse.dll?db=1920usfedcen&amp;h=75070653&amp;ti=0&amp;indiv=try&amp;gss=pt&amp;ssrc=pt_t14846324_p172687826_kpidz0q3d172687826z0q26pgz0q3d32768z0q26pgPLz0q3dpid\" target=\"_blank\">1920 US Census<\/a><\/strong>.\u00c2\u00a0 All of the census records show her living in Otsego County, Michigan in the Gaylord area.\u00c2\u00a0 The 1900 US Census says she had been married for 14 years, putting her wedding date circa 1886 prior to her arrival.\u00c2\u00a0 Unfortunately, I haven&#8217;t found Anna&#8217;s or Joseph Dreffs&#8217; ship passenger records.\u00c2\u00a0 We know absolutely nothing about her family.<\/p>\n<p>Anna died on April 8, 1926 in Saginaw, Michigan. \u00c2\u00a0 Her son (my grandfather) Walter Anthony Dreffs was 26 years old when she passed away.\u00c2\u00a0 She died more than two decades before my mother was even born.\u00c2\u00a0 We have no other information about her.\u00c2\u00a0 She is buried with her husband Joseph Dreffs at Mt. Mrs. Dreffs left  Gaylord 13 years ago and has since lived in Saginaw.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Dreffs  was born in Poland 57 years ago, coming to Gaylord 38 years ago.  She  leaves to mourn their loss, her husband and ten children, Martin and  Vincent of Gaylord; Frank, Walter, Paul, Andrew and Cassimer Dreffs;  Mrs. Paul Grabowski, Mrs. Stanley Remyszewski and Mrs. Mary Kolba, of  Saginaw; 37 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  Funeral services  were held at St. Casimers church at Saginaw, Saturday morning, Rev. Fr.  Valerlan S.
